Field Trip Science Theater
The Bakken Museum´s field trip science theater performances allow teachers to integrate science and the arts into their teaching curriculum. Led by a group a science educators with extensive theater and dance training, this field trip opportunity is dedicated to providing a unique science learning experience to students. In addition to a performance in the museum´s Great Hall (for up to 75 students), students experience three stations in the museum, including a multi-media Frankenstein exhibit, hosted by docents who explain the understanding of science and electricity in Mary Shelley´s time. The Bakken Museum offers discounted prices for multiple field trip science theater performances and/or workshops on the same day.
Finding Frankenstein (Grades 7-12)
Middle and high school students experience a live performance from a professional actress who portrays the teen-aged author of Frankenstein, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. She shares the details of Lord Byron´s challenge to create a ghost story during a time when women rarely knew how to read or write, and what inspired her to compose the unusual tale about a hideous monster brought to life with electricity. The performance references contemporary icons like Janis Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix, making it relevant and humorous to young audiences. In addition to the performance in the Great Hall (for up to 75 students), students experience three stations in the museum including a multi-media Frankenstein exhibit, hosted by docents who explain the understanding of science and electricity in Mary Shelley´s time. (45 minute performance, 15 minute question and answer session, 1 hour tour)
