General Rental Information
The Bakken Museum has several spaces available for rental use, including a unique outside terrace space, and can accommodate groups of up to 200 people. The Bakken Museum is a non-smoking facility and is handicapped accessible.
Rental Criteria
- The museum requires that renting organizations meet the following criteria:
- The renting group has an interest in the mission of The Bakken Museum and/or;
- The theme of the event relates to the mission of The Bakken Museum and/or;
- The event includes an opportunity for communicating The Bakken Museum´s mission to the people attending.
- The Bakken Museum will not provide rental space for the following events:
- Weddings and other private parties and/or;
- Fundraisers for other organizations and/or;
- Political events.
- The Bakken Museum reserves the right to deny a rental application for any reason.
Food & Beverage
- Food and beverage may be served at the event with prior approval from the Group Services Coordinator.
- In order to safeguard The Bakken Museum´s historical collections, no food or beverage is allowed in the exhibit galleries.
- The Bakken Museum requests the use of one of the following approved caterers (for approval of another caterer contact the Group Services Coordinator):

- Dark beverages are strongly discouraged.
- No sale of alcohol is allowed on the premises.
- Catering staff is responsible for cleaning the kitchen and service areas following the event including trash removal.
Decorations, Equipment & Signage
- In order to safeguard The Bakken Museum´s historical collections, no decorations are allowed in the exhibit galleries.
- All arrangements for deliveries of decorations and equipment (tables, flowers, linens, A/V equipment, etc.) must be made in advance through the Group Services Coordinator.
- Payment for such deliveries must be arranged independent of The Bakken Museum.
- Deliveries or set up of any kind are not to begin prior to the designated event set up time without approval from the Group Services Coordinator.
- All decorations, equipment or other items brought into The Bakken Museum must be approved by the Group Services Coordinator and must be removed by the end time of the event. The Bakken Museum is not responsible for any items left on the premises.
- No amplified music is allowed on the terrace on in the garden.
- Lit candles are prohibited.
- Decorations may not be placed on furniture, mantles or woodwork.
- Use of tape on walls must be approved by the Group Services Coordinator and tape must be provided by The Bakken Museum.
- Tents may only be utilized if the full facility is rented.
- Use of The Bakken Museum´s equipment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Signage may be placed in the facility with permission from the Group Services Coordinator.
Parking & Vehicles
- Lot parking is limited. Additional parking is available on 36th Street and Zenith Avenue.
- Large groups are strongly advised to use buses (bus parking on 36th Street only).
- Visitors are advised not to leave valuables in their vehicles.
- Commercial vehicles are not allowed on The Bakken Museum grounds, except those engaged in service, deliveries, or those engaged in the transportation of visitors with special needs.
Photography
- Visitors may take pictures provided that interpretive programming is not interrupted. Photography or video taping that requires special lighting or set up (including flash) is not permitted.
- News media photographers may take pictures of the facility if on assignment from their employment and with permission from the Group Services Coordinator. Published photographs should identify the site and give credit to The Bakken Museum.
- Commercial photography is not permitted in The Bakken Museum.
- The production of a documentary or educational film must receive prior approval from the Group Services Coordinator.
Security
- The Bakken Museum reserves the right to require security arrangements for any event. Applicable charges will be the responsibility of the renter.
- Children 12 and under must be supervised by an adult at all times.
Liability & Damages
- The Bakken Museum is not responsible for any damages or loss of items stored or displayed on its property prior to, during, or following the renter´s function. The renter is responsible for any damages and/or thefts that occur to the facility or on the grounds by their guests or other agents present.
- Utmost care and caution must be taken when in the facility or on the grounds to protect artifacts and exhibits.
Cancellations/Refunds
- All cancellations must be received in writing. Refunds are based on the following schedule:
- Cancellations 90 days prior to scheduled event: $50 fee
- Cancellations 60 days prior to scheduled event: forfeit half of deposit
- Cancellations 30 days prior to scheduled event: forfeit full deposit
- Cancellations 14 days prior to scheduled event: forfeit full fee
