Outeach Science Theater
The Bakken Museum´s outreach science theater performances assist teachers in integrating science and the arts into their curriculum. Led by a group a science educators with extensive theater and dance training, this outreach opportunity provides a unique science learning experience to students. Science theater performances are ideal for audiences of up to 300 students (Finding Frankenstein accommodates up to 200 students). The Bakken Museum offers discounted prices for multiple outreach science theater performances and/or outreach workshops on the same day.
Shocking News About Your Heart (Grades 1-12)
This fun-filled, educational and interactive presentation teaches audiences about the electrical nature of the heart and what to do if someone is suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Designed for kids of all ages, Shocking News About Your Heart enlists audience participation and features hands-on demonstrations as well as humorous portrayals of historical characters who were influential in cardiac medicine. (45 minute performance)
Finding Frankenstein (Grades 7-12)
Middle and high school students experience a live performance from a professional actress who portrays the teen-aged author of Frankenstein, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. She shares the details of Lord Byron´s challenge to create a ghost story during a time when women rarely knew hoe to read or write, and what inspired her to compose the unusual tale about a hideous monster brought to life with electricity. The performance references contemporary icons like Janis Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix, making it relevant and humorous to young audiences. (45 minute performance)
