1,170 Prairie Elementary School Students Receive weeklong science assemblies, residencies from The Bakken Museum

Worthington, Minn. – This week, 1,170 students in Worthington, Minnesota, are participating in hands-on workshops and assemblies led by educators from The Bakken Museum. Each student in Kindergarten through fifth grade will receive programming designed to build their confidence in science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. The museum's program, called Week of Wonder (WOW), covers topics ranging from how static electricity works to the innovation process and the inner workings of our intestines.

"Last year's Week of Wonder was so much fun! I'm so glad we get to have The Bakken Museum back. The educators came in the school, and they were so comfortable with our kids. They taught complex topics in such a friendly way that the students not only understood, but also got excited," said Prairie Elementary School Principal Heidi Meyer. "The students got to also use their own materials to learn hands-on and the presenters interacted with the students while they did that. By the excitement of the students, you would have thought they were playing with celebrities."

"Through the Week of Wonder program, we can dive deep into grade-appropriate science and math concepts in a way that makes science fun and accessible to all students," said The Bakken Museum Outreach Programs Manager Siri Hellerman. "We're proud to support educators by providing a curriculum that meets state academic standards in science and inspires young learners."

The Bakken Museum annually provides workshops, assemblies, and residencies to over 22,000 K-12 students across the upper Midwest. The museum's programs use humor and exciting demonstrations to explore the connections between science, technology, and the humanities.

The 3M Foundation generously supports the Bakken Museum's Week of Wonder program.
