View The Bakken Museum’s Yellow Lady Slippers in Full Bloom During Doors Open Minneapolis

On May 18 and 19, 2019, The Bakken Museum will join over 110 landmarks, civic, business, and non-profit organizations in celebrating our unique city during Doors Open Minneapolis.

“From the West Winds mansion to our founder Earl Bakken, our museum is deeply woven into the fabric of this city’s history,” said The Bakken Museum Director Michael Sanders. “During the Doors Open event, we are excited to highlight our unique setting and showcase our museum as one of Minneapolis’ treasures.”

During Doors Open Minneapolis, The Bakken Museum will be hosting garden tours every hour on the hour. Visitors are invited to explore nearly three acres of gardens, grounds, and wetlands, experience the Gothic-Tudor architecture of the West Winds Mansion, and learn more about the museum’s mission.

Free garden tours will take place during Doors Open Minneapolis, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19.

Doors Open started in 1984 in France and over the years spread throughout Europe and into North America. Other U.S. cities have successfully launched similar initiatives. Open House Chicago began in 2011, and last year over 100,000 unique individuals visited 257 sites in the city and two near suburbs. Doors Open Milwaukee also began in 2011 and last year 26,100 visited approximately 170 sites as part of its tour.
