The Bakken Museum announces executive search

MINNEAPOLIS, MN.  – April 26, 2022 – Today, The Bakken Museum announced its search for a President & CEO.

The search is being conducted by Ballinger Leafblad, a Twin Cities-based executive search firm serving civic clients including nonprofit, foundation, higher education and associations.

“This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a one-of-a-kind museum at the forefront of promoting STEM education in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota,” said The Bakken Museum Interim President & CEO Heather Walch. “An incoming executive will find that the museum has an expert staff looking to expand the organization to the next level.”

The President & CEO is responsible for administering the policies set by the Board, maximizing and enhancing the resources of the Museum, and providing leadership for the Museum’s programs, operations, and overall strategy of exploring the potential for science, technology, and the humanities to make the world a better place.

Former President & CEO, Michael Sanders, announced his departure earlier this year. Sanders has brought his expertise in museum operations to the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) as their Chief Operations Officer. Sanders served as CEO of The Bakken Museum for over six years.

A complete position profile is available online here (https://thebakken.org/s/Position-Profile-Bakken-Museum-President-and-CEO-FINAL.pdf). Interested candidates should email a resume and cover letter to Lars Leafblad at lars@ballingerleafblad.com. Applications will be accepted until May 20.
