Explore Innovations in STEAM
Join us during most winter, spring, and MEA breaks for camps at The Bakken Museum! During Break Camps, students practice responsible innovation in the makerspace. Campers experiment with technology, code, and creativity, resulting in a take-home project they’ll be proud to show off.
The Bakken offers income-based scholarships to help provide access to its youth programs.
Fall MEA Break Camp
Join us during MEA break for some time in the makerspace! Each day we will have a creative hands-on project for students to build and customize. More details coming after summer camp concludes. Join for one session, or join for them all. Pack a lunch and have a full day of creative exploration.
Ages: 9-13 (grades 4-8)
Price: $60 ($54 for household members)
All sessions are full.
Cardboard Automaton Build (10/15) — 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Combining art and engineering, this workshop challenges participants to construct a cardboard creation that does something interesting when a crank is turned. We’ll explore mechanisms like gears and cams, as well as both hand tools and laser cutting!

Exploring Electricity (10/15) — 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Electricity: we use it every day, but often without much understanding of how it works. In this afternoon workshop, we’ll get hands-on with circuit-building challenges, dig into how the movement of electrons becomes usable electrical current, and build and customize small electrical generators to take home.

Solder, Stitch, Sculpt (10/16) — 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Our Makerspace has lots of bits and bobs that work great as functional parts for projects, but can also be put together in creative ways to make art. Kids will receive guided practice with our real tools, like soldering irons, and exercise their artistic side at the same time creating fun and unique sculptures of their own design!

Open Build (10/16) — 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Just like our seasonal Inventors Club and Summer Camp programs, we’re opening up the Makerspace for participants to bring their ideas to life. Whether participants want to bring an idea with them or just explore the materials and tools to see what they can create, we’ll be there to make sure they have a great time exercising their creativity while building fun and useful skills along the way!
