BREAK CAMPS: ADVENTURES IN WEARABLES

All week we are practicing innovation in the workshop. Experiment with technology, code, and creativity. The theme of the week is Wearable Technology, and each session has a different topic and take home project. Join us for one or join us for them all.

Recommended for students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.


Sneaky Circuits

Mondays | March 25 & April 1

Morning | 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Surprise Party Hat: We will combine a festive hat with some sneaky circuitry to make a fun party trick.

Afternoon | 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Dancing Pin: We will learn how to program a servo motor to bring a badge to life. A great addition to a jacket or backpack!

Medieval Costume Party

Tuesdays | March 26 & April 2

Morning | 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Light Up Crown: A great addition to a dress-up closet or a royal costume. We will build crowns out of cardboard and hone our soldering skills to make them illuminate.

Afternoon | 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Cardboard Armor: Realize your medieval dreams! We will explore the principals of cardboard construction to create personal pieces of armor.

Arms and Armor

Wednesdays | March 27 & April 3

Morning | 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Light Up Sword: Build your own sword with some added flair! We will add lights to give your creation a unique twist.

Afternoon | 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Light Up Shield: Build a cardboard shield and program a set of lights on it to make it your own.

Cloth and Code

Thursdays | March 28 & April 4

Morning | 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Sewing Circuits: Combine textiles and circuitry to make a headband, wristband, or other wearable item illuminate!

Afternoon | 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Reader Be-wear: We will program a MicroBit microcontroller to add a text display to a piece of clothing, backpack or other accessory.

Cardboard Extravaganza

Fridays | March 29 & April 5

Morning | 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Hydraulic Grabber: Use cardboard, syringes, and water to make a wrist-mounted hydraulic claw. Live your best cyborg life.

Afternoon | 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Make a Mask: Use cardboard and other components in our makerspace to create a one-of-a-kind mask. The options are endless!

Cost: $40 per half day session ($36 for members)

Morning sessions | 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Drop Off: 8:30 to 9:00 a.m.
Pick Up: 12:00 to 12:30 p.m.

Afternoon sessions | 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Drop Off: 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.
Pick Up: 4:00 to 4:30 p.m.
