The Bakken Museum’s Bakkenalia 21+ event series returns June 16

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Next Thursday, June 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Bakken Museum is bringing back its popular evening event series, Bakkenalia. Adults over the age of 21 are invited to the museum to grab a drink, explore exhibits, and try hands-on experiments about the science of color.

The Current DJ, Sanni Brown, will be playing music on the museum’s rooftop lawn. Alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks can be purchased from Bartending by Drew and food from the Chef Shack food truck.

Activities and tastings will be presented by Bakken Museum educators and 11 Wells Distillery, Norseman Distilling, Tattersall Distilling, Jinx Tea, and Vikre Distilling.

Interactive activities include:

  • Challenge a friend to a color sorting game with an added twist—wearing glasses with colored lenses that change what your brain can see!

  • Build wearable art using dichroic film, a material that changes color depending on how it interacts with light.

  • Experiment with making and mixing your watercolors using natural materials and chemical reactions.

  • Discover the colors in the light we see using a diffraction grating and challenge yourself to match different lights to the spectra they emit.

Tickets for Bakkenalia are available online in advance and at the door for $25 and $20 for members of The Bakken Museum. Visit thebakken.org/calendar/chromatics-and-cocktails to purchase tickets. Must be 21 years of age or older with a valid ID to attend this event.

Bakkenalia: Chromatics and Cocktails is one of a three-part event series. The next event, Bakkenalia: Surprise Your Senses, is scheduled for August 11.
