Facilitated Wetland Science Activity Cart

  • The Bakken Museum 3537 Zenith Avenue South Minneapolis, MN, 55416 United States (map)

Wetlands are water-rich natural areas that provide food and refuge for a variety of wildlife. The Bakken’s Wetland Science Activity Cart offers free STEM-themed activities for youth and families right outside the museum’s restored wetlands. Stop by to learn about pH testing and water filtration.

The Wetland Activity Cart can be found on Saturdays from 12 to 3 p.m. near the corner of W 36th Street and W Bde Maka Ska Parkway // SEE MAP

ACTIVITIES

WATER FILTRATION

How does nature filter water? A Bakken Museum Educator will show you how natural items like rocks, dirt, and sand in the wetland help decontaminate polluted, murky water before it enters lakes and streams.

PH TESTING

Animals and plants in a habitat are only able to thrive when the chemical composition of the environment is healthy and stable. Scientists use pH tests to check for potential variations or problems that could affect wildlife. Learn about the pH scale and test different fluids for their level of acidity.

CREATURE OBSERVATIONS

Help our educators identify creatures from the wetland. Use tools to examine species, try to catch a bug, and peer through binoculars to spy on birds.

The Bakken Museum’s Facilitated Wetland Science Activity Cart is supported by the West Bde Maka Ska Neighborhood Council.
