Mary & Her Monster Exhibit

Learn about Mary Shelley’s life and her novel in the immersive Mary and Her Monster exhibit.

Science Fiction has influenced countless real-life innovations. Written in 1818, Frankenstein is widely considered to be the first science fiction novel. Equally as interesting as the story itself is who wrote it. The author, Mary Shelley, was only 18 years old when she wrote the story. An audacious and fascinating young woman, Shelley challenged conventions and overcame many obstacles. In this exhibit, you’ll learn all about the art, culture, and science that influenced the mother of science fiction and why questions raised in the novel continue to be relevant today.
