The Bakken Museum, The Show Nonprofit call for community art submissions – Immersion: Works on Paper

The Bakken Museum, in conjunction with The Show, is excited to release a call for community art submissions. Artists are invited to submit 2-D pieces that reflect the theme of Immersion.

The Immersion: Work on Paper exhibition aims to share art at a price point accessible to more individuals. All art will be priced at $50, with proceeds going to the artists. In addition, staff at The Show Nonprofit will frame art at no cost to the artists, and it is free to submit work.

The submission deadline is November 28, and the selected pieces will be displayed from December 16, 2022, to March 31, 2023.

Submission Details: 

  • Theme: Immersion - the fact of being involved with or participating in something; state of being engaged; enthralled.

  • Submission Deadline: November 28, 2022

  • Artists notified: The week of December 5, 2022

  • Exhibition Open: December 16, 2022 – March 31, 2023

  • Display Location: The Bakken Museum, 3537 Zenith Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55416 

  • There is no application fee to apply

  • Artists must be located in Minnesota

  • All artwork must be 8”x10” or smaller on paper

  • Open to artists working in all 2-d mediums, for example, watercolor, photography, pencil, pen, charcoal, paint, mixed media, or written word, etc. on paper

  • Accepted submissions will be framed by us at no charge to the artist. Artists will keep the framed piece unless it sells

  • Sculptures will not be accepted due to space limitations

  • Each artist may submit up to 2 pieces

  • All work must be original artwork created in the last two years

  • Name of the piece

  • Medium(s) used to create the piece

The Bakken Museum and The Show believe the representation of diverse identities, backgrounds, and communities helps increase visibility and improve our connection. Therefore, artists from traditionally marginalized backgrounds are encouraged to submit works to the Kinetic Exhibition. 

Art Drop Off: Selected artworks can be dropped off at The Bakken Museum on December 14, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or December 15, 2022, from 1 to 5 p.m. Pieces must be received at The Bakken Museum by 5 p.m. on December 15 to be included in the exhibit. Additional drop-off times may be available upon request.
